Kia Optima hybrid channels Superman at Chicago Auto Show

Kia-optima
The fifth iteration of superhero-styled Kia vehicles stormed the Chicago Auto Show, this time in the form of an Optima hybrid in Superman livery.

Kia, DC Entertainment and Super Street Magazine will design eight vehicles around the Justice League superheroes. Kia has already unveiled a Koup styled like the Flash, a Soul with a Green Lantern design, an Aquaman Rio and a Cyborg Forte. Left in the Justice League are Batman and Wonder Woman. The eighth and final vehicle will be a combination of all seven superheroes in one.

Kia selected the Optima hybrid as Superman's vehicle because of its “strength and unwavering care for planet earth.”

The Optima has been widened with custom fenders to give the sedan a muscular look, and it has an adjustable suspension system that raises and lowers the vehicle with the push of a button.

The vehicle gets Superman's chest emblem on its hood, and the red paint on the trunk is supposed to recall a cape. The beveled front grille is meant to resemble Superman's belt, and the red headlights mimic his heat vision. The designs are influenced by comic book artist Jim Lee.

Inside, Superman's iconic “S” shield is integrated into the seats and steering wheel.

The joint project serves the purpose of raising awareness of DC Entertainment's “We Can Be Heroes” campaign, a relief effort for the people impacted by drought and famine in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya.

  1. We all know that the movie, Man of Steel, will soon be unleashed on the big screen. Surprisingly, this blog post really caught my attention. I can see that the collaboration of Kia, one of the world's fastest moving global automotive brands, and Superman is one heck of a combination. More outstandingly, it offers cutting edge technologies that it is packed with voice-activated infotainment and communication system. Truly magnificent! But would it withstand a kryptonite? We'll soon find out. xD!
